The question - Am I better off selling the wheels as is or breaking them down and selling the hubs and rims seperately?

The details - They are 8 speed, 1993 or thereabouts. The hubs are Campy and I'm 95% sure they are C-Record, as they have the oil port cover in the center of the body and have a great finish. (Most of the other stuff on the bike was C-Record, although the RD was Chorus.) The rims are Campy Omega 19's. I have no idea who made the spokes. The wheels are used, but appear to be in very good shape. I really have no use for them and want to sell them to someone who does.

Thoughts?

Hi,
I live in Boulder and brought this bicycle here from the Bay area, where I had bought it 3rd hand. It is a wonderful bike, and I have just finished my 3rd Tour de Tucson--very slow, but I am very off the couch and 65. But I saw in the Tucson Tour results that considerably older people did the route in much better time. I want to rise to the implicit challenge. We plan to do the Phoenix and Stagecoach centuries over xmas/New Year's.
I have enjoyed your conversations re other Bottecchias and would like to know more about my bike. In particular, I'd like to replace the stem. The original black, sleek, Bottecchia stem broke at the handle bar and the snooty bike shop on Pearl Street said that the clumpy thing on my bike now was the only thing available to fit the old-fashioned head set.

You guys sound like you could help me replace the clunker stem with something more appropriate. Any ideas?

Hi everyone.
I need some help deciding what to do. I am working up a Raleigh Gran Sport-60's era. It will not be fully restored, rather made ridable, preserving 40+ years of use and abuse. The BB is rebuilt and the headset, the Brooks saddle is oiled, the frame is straightened. I am only missing a couple of small brake pieces.

But the wheels. Steel. They are 27X1 1/4, the rear is a 40 hole. This is the problem. The LBS wheel man say no way to true the old steel wheels, wants to replace them with alloy at around $30 each, they would be 700c size.

I think I could get the brakes to work with 700c wheels as there is adjustment in the slots but what do you say?

Save the old steel by finding a wheel man who will get them sort of true or replace. Ideas??
Can old steel wheels be brought back to life??

If anyone has a true set of 27's, including a 40 hole rim please let me know.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

I picked up a too tall Raleigh Olympian that has one of the old belt drive odometers on it. A Sachs Huret model with about 2,000 miles showing on it (or maybe it is about 200.0? I'll have to look again.) I kind of like it but I'd have to find an o-ring or replacement belt for it and swap on a washer in place of the mounting arm on the axle. Or maybe I'll just leave it on the bike, I don't know.

Or maybe I'll mount it on a unicycle and relearn what little I knew about uni riding from decades ago.

What do you all do with accessories like these things? Use them? Trash bin them? Throw them in a bucket in the shed? Shadow box display on the living room wall?

Maybe I'll post a pic if I fire up the computer, phone don't work for pics.

edit: pic uploads is reallllllly different now, like being a dentist for Mules or a podiatrist for Rhinos.

I need to know if I should put it on sale somewhere else if yes please give any examples of good places to sell bicycles. I want tips and helpful advice on selling used bicycles. Should I touch up the paint, grease everything, buy new parts or sell it as it is for less money. Anything would be helpful. Thank You

I can take pictures when I get home if nobody knows what I'm talking about. This saddle was on my 1976 Triumph folder and was probably the original that it came with. It's got a vinyl or faux-leather cover over a metal frame with springs to provide squishiness. It's built rather like a sofa.

I've heard all the debates over whether squishy or hard saddles are better for the posture etc. I have found this saddle to be quite comfortable for my length of commute. The problem is that the cover is deteriorating and the frame is poking through in places. I've ridden it with a gel pad on top but now the gel pad is being torn up by the vinyl. I could tape up the holes with duct tape, I suppose...

The ideal solution for me would be to get a new cover to replace the vinyl one that's falling apart. Can these be bought anywhere? I might try to buy some scrap leather and sew a new one myself, if not, using the old cover as a template.

Can anyone shed some light on this model for me? Its a flea market find, Seems to be a decent bike. It has shimano AX with a Campy victory rear. I am itching to ride it once I get the back wheel fixed.

Thoughts?
