  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: Hints and tricks thread (hopefully)

I thought it would be a good thing to have a thread where people post and discuss little tricks they came up, during the course of their cycling and bike-repair experience. One trick I have: I noticed that, no matter how good the rubber insulation on the battery lid of the cyclecomputer, in the...

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: sheldonbrown.com shortcuts

My Website has been growing since December 1995, and has become quite large. As a result, it is sometimes challenging to navigate it. Generally the best place to start is http://sheldonbrown.com/glossary or http://sheldonbrown.com/articles But I have also created a number of shortcut links. ...

  1. 10-Speed Ultegra Chainring question

I have an Ultegra 5-bolt Triple Crank with a 10 speed cassette, and would like to replace the small 30T chainring with something in the neighborhood of a 26T ring. Anybody have any experience with this that could recommend a vendor for the chainring?

  2. Urgent fork question...

Looking to replace my CDale Ultra with something lighter. Found something I like...the steerer is 7.75". By my measurement I have 8.00" from crown to the top edge of the stem with the spacers I want. Will the .25" pose a problem if using a compression plug? Thanks!

  4. Real world difference between 28/34t and 32/34t (and Rear derailleur & shifter Qs)

I am currently trying to find a cassette and chainset to suit my new build. My current bike uses an 11-28t cassette with a 34-50t compact chainset. I find that the lowest gear this provides isn't really low enough for some hills and I find myself having to mash a bit. How much difference would...

  5. Pitted hub cone... again.

After 7000 or so miles on the original equipment, the non drive side hub cone on my rear hub was pitted. It was pretty severe, so I pulled everything apart and checked the race (?) inside the hub and it was not damaged, just the cone. I replaced it with a Wheels Mfg. cone, replaced the...

  7. Bike Chain disposal

I know there is a company which takes bike chains once you fill up a box full of them, and they recycle them or make jewelery or something. They pay for shipping if you have a full box. I figured the mechanics would know the company i was talking about.

  8. Probably noobish pump question

So, I just picked up a floor pump, and I can't for the life of me get the thing to work. The problem seems to be that it has a head with holes for both Schrader and Presta valves, and when I put it on my Presta the air all comes out the Schrader hole, and vice versa. Is my pump defective, or is...

  11. Help with installing Rotor Q-rings!

hi, I'm not able to setup 53/39 Q-rings on my road bike with Shimano(6600) E-type derailleur. It always ended up with chain rubbing the cage. The cage has a groove along the chain and the chain moving vertically makes it very difficult to get the chain centered in the cage. Are E-type...
