  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: First Aid

Do you carry one ? What is in it? Have you ever used it in anger? Have you got any first aid training? Any experience of serious self-administered first aid? I carry a pretty minimal one, some antiseptics wipes, plasters, dressings, wound closures and mild painkillers, basically a road-rash...

There are often pictures of bikes, but pictures of loaded bikes seem to be harder to come by searching this forum. So here is my contribution. This is a picture of my bike from my european tour.

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: Touring... For Trade List...

So I might have overlooked something, but would the mods be okay with a trade list in the touring forum like they have over in C & V? If not just lock this, but if so... Have: Univega Gran Turismo 52 CM Frameset. It's had a bad paint job, but would be a great build for someone who would be...

  4. Sticky Thread Sticky: Tips and Tricks

Generic powdered juice mix, plus a pinch of salt and a pinch of salt substitute makes a CHEAP and effective Gatorade substitute. A velcro strap about 8 inches long, can be used as a "parking brake" by wrapping it around your front brake lever and securing it to the bar. You can lean your loaded...

  5. Sticky Thread Sticky: Update 8/8/09: 2009 List of Touring Bikes (excel sheet)

So I've had a few people asking for my Excel sheet rating all the touring bikes of 2009. First Im sure its not all the touring bikes. I didn't include frames, custom bikes, or all bikes suitable for touring. These bikes are $2000 , errr kinda, or less and are labeled as touring bikes by their...

Sure you can search for it all over the place, but here it is in one spot. Calling everyone who has cyclo toured before... If you started touring all over again, what would you tell yourself? what would your bike setup look like? what kind of racks and paniers would be best? What camping gear...

  7. garmin maps questions

I'm new to the world of GPS and I just picked up an eTrex Vista HCx. For those of you who have the same or similar, which method do you prefer getting maps and why? CD? Upload? microSD/SD? Are there any alternatives or aftermarket maps people use? Thank you in advance.

  8. Garmin or RAM GPS mount?

Hi all, looks like I'm going to get a Garmin Oregon 550 GPS, so wondering if anyone has opinions on the RAM mount vs the Garmin one. Obviously the RAM one is much fancier, has a ball-and-socket joint, etc - but looks big and cumbersome, especially when the GPS isn't mounted. Opinions?

  9. Found an old Burley tandem tourer.

A friend of mine had this in his yard for nearly a year, and I had to do something! I offered my big orange stretch cruiser, and he bit. No it's not stolen... He got it from the original owner who began having children within a few months of buying it. So, it sat unused in his attic since...

  13. What's your average speed, fully loaded?

I was looking at some pictures of touring set ups here and couldn't help but wonder what the average speed (in mph/kph) on any of those are. I would have made this a poll, but I'm sure you pack lighter/heavier for different distances.

Hi, My partner and I are plotting a mini-tour this February - 2 weeks long, and somewhere warm.
